Put this quiet beachside haven near Old Bar on your wishlist.

When you think of a beach holiday in NSW that ticks all the boxes, which locations spring to mind? North to Byron Bay? South to Ulladulla? What’s on your wishlist of must-haves to make it must-do?

How about Wallabi Point? “Where?” you might say? But that’s exactly its appeal!

Wallabi Point is a coastal village, ten minutes off the Pacific Highway east of Taree. This quiet beachside haven adjoins the popular surfing destination of Saltwater Point, plus the beautiful and culturally significant Saltwater National Park. Here the long sandy arc of Old Bar Beach stretches north to the mouth of the Manning River, and Diamond Beach stretches southwards to Hallidays Point.

You can learn to surf at Saltwater Surf School, and the lagoon, river and ocean provide perfect opportunities for your favourite water sports: swimming, surfing, fishing, paddle boarding, sailboarding, kayaking or just floating around on a rubber ring.

Take your bare feet for a walk on the long wide beaches and watch for dolphins in the surf, or sit and watch the waves breaking at dawn or dusk. Strap on your comfy shoes for a scenic walk on the headland to spot whales, or through the coastal forest next to the lagoon on the Five Islands Trail.

If mountain biking is your thing, the trails into Khappinghat Nature Reserve can keep you pumping from dawn to dusk.

The neighbouring village of Old Bar is just a short drive (or walk, run or bike ride) away. It’s famous for the Old Bar Beach Festival held every October long weekend that includes the annual gathering of VW Kombi lovers.

Old Bar has a laid-back coastal vibe rarely seen elsewhere these days, epitomised by Flow Bar which offers live music and great food. Buyi Espresso Bar, Old Bar Village Café and The Tav offer more great dining options, and the authentic Thai food at Sai Thai Table is delicious.

Wallabi Point provides a family-friendly location where you can spend quality time with each other. It can also be a romantic getaway without other distractions, or a place just to catch up with friends.

For accommodation I recommend Wishlist At Wallabi of course. This modern and spacious beachfront property has views from almost every room and is the best place to enjoy your stay at Wallabi Point. You can even stay snuggled in bed with your morning cuppa to watch the sunrise over the beach.

Whatever your holiday wishes, Wallabi Point provides the perfect holiday rewards: an idyllic and unspoilt location that’s uncrowded and unhurried. (Just don’t tell the Byron Bay celebrities about it, LOL!)
