“Laurel Canyon meets British Rock’n’Roll with a dash of Blonde Roots.” Swamp Daisies protagonists Tania Bowra and Melanie Forbes are the lovechildren of classic rock’n’roll, indie, folk and soul.
Tania, still regarded for her 1989 ARIA-nominated debut ‘Heaven and Earth’, has wowed audiences at iconic venues in Australia and the UK, opening for artists such as Bruce Cockburn, Jimmy Webb and Paul Brady, as well as touring in the band of Ex-Fairground Attraction’s Eddi Reader. Tania featured in Joni: A tribute to the Legendary Joni Mitchell alongside such marquee singers as Wendy Matthews, Katie Noonan and Kristen Berardi.
Melanie, hailing from Te Awamutu - the North Island town that spawned Neil and Tim Finn, has been band member for the likes of (celebrated NZ blues artist) Midge Marsden, Shanley Del and Jenny Morris. With her own band Sistermadly (who have toured with Dave Dobbyn and Wendy Matthews), Mel has had her songs placed in Australian film classics Looking for Alibrandi and Occasional Coarse Language.
Swamp Daisies’ new EP Brand New Shoes (out on Spotify and Apple Music) is described as ‘driving guitar driven pop rock with just the right amount of grit and glitter as well as being the sonic equivalent of a well-made Japanese slipper (the drink) but a kick like a dirty martini’. (Paul Greene Sounds Delicious).
