Good vibes and great sunsets overlooking stunning Wallis Lake since 1872.

The Lakes & Ocean Hotel is one of the local historic icons of Forster. Being over 145 years old, we certainly don’t look it, with our on-going renovations and improvements, the hotel has been completely transformed. With great eating/drinking areas which have been opened up with large windows and doors opening onto the veranda, blurring the boundary between indoor and outdoor seating. The café serves breakfast, cake, tea, coffee, craft beers and cocktails. Perfect for a quiet cuppa in the morning before heading out for the day or enjoying. Situated right in town it is only a short walk to the town shops, and Forster main beach.

The hotel offers eight deluxe queen size rooms with ensuite. Located directly across the road from the stunning Wallis Lake. Four rooms open out directly onto an open veranda with the other four having access to the 180-degree views of Wallis Lake and the famous Foster Tuncurry Bridge. There is also budget accommodation for those just wanting to put their head down in our old pub rooms.

The bistro is open 7 days for lunch and dinner and the cafe is open for breakfast. A function room is also available for any event with catering for any occasions. You can sit and relax on the open verandas at the hotel and overlook the stunning Wallis Lake while enjoying a coffee, drinks or a meal.

I absolutely love this place. I often come in for the egg and bacon roll + coffee for $10 breakfast deal in the Bistro section. While the food is lovely, it’s not actually the main reason I come in. I actually come in because of the staff. They truly are outstanding. I give special mention to Murray and Gay who are two of the most wonderful people I have had the pleasure to meet in a very long time. They absolutely make this place a gem. Their hospitality is off the charts. They are great to talk to and they give the place an ambience that you just don’t get anywhere else. I cannot think of a single restaurant/cafe in the 1.5 years my partner and I have been travelling in Australia where we have been so warmly welcomed.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this place. Great service and the food was absolutely amazing. Such large serves of everything we ordered and all 6 of us raved about the food. The salad was the best I've ever eaten (most places it's not great and the sauce/dressing on it is horrible, as I'm fussy with dressings). Simply couldn't fault this place in any way. It's such a pity we're only in Forster for another 8 days, but we will make sure we eat here again (hopefully several times) before we leave. Sorry, was so busy enjoying the food that I forgot to take photos except for one of the $15.00 lunch special chicken burger. It was HUGE!

The scotch fillet and mash potatoes was the worst... avoid it, on the positive the calamari and burgers are the good. Really busy during dinner if you want social distancing request a table out the front on the lake side

Brilliant ribs night on Tuesday. Great value for $15 plus a drink. If you walk along the river after dark you might spot a dolphin!
